Incorrect date format error

May 21, 2009 at 11:52 PM

I am using version 3.0. I am having the error "Incorrect date formar error" when following these steps. Does anyone have the same problem?

- Enter some text to the search box and hit Search button

- Click on any modified date on the Modified facet, eg "12/05/2009". The facet now display the time as well, eg. 02:39PM, 12/05/2009

- Click on this modified date again "02:39PM, 12/05/2009"

- Error will be displayed:

Incorrect date format: "12/05/2009 2:39:00 PM"
Please help.

Are you getting error from Core Search Results web part or Faceted Search web part?

I got the error in the Core Search Results webpart.

Thanks a lot

Core Search web part is limited to a short date. It is by design.

Thanks for your quick reply. Is there anything we can do to avoid this error to be displayed?

May I offer an alternate viewpoint on this?  The error is occurring when a date facet is chosen and that date facet is being applied to the search results.  Most date facets (such as Modified Date in this case) will be date and time based.  So it seems to me that what we require is a change to the way in which dates are applied to the search results, whereby the date is always applied as a short date, irrespective of its original definition.  (I haven't looked at the code base behind this, so I apologise if my comments don't make sense.)

To understand your proposal: you want to have Facets refined whereas the core search show the same result set?

Sorry Leonid - you lost me there.  What I was suggesting was that if the search core web part can only use short dates (i.e. without the time) then is it possible to trim all date fields as they are applied to the search results.  However, I don't have a clear understanding of what is going on under the covers, so I am aware that my analysis may be too simplistic.

Does anyone experience the same problem? I still couldn't get it working :(.

The DateTime trimming to a short DateTime format will be done in future releases. Likely the drill-down to "incorrect" date time format will be disabled to avoid confusion of the core search results.
